10% of child injuries happen on the playground
The federal government study according to ABC News, looked at data ranging from 2001-to 2013 for children aged 14 years and younger. Almost 10% of children treated in the emergency room had traumatic brain injuries from the playground. Concussions occur more commonly in boys, furthermore, half of the emergency room brain injuries occurred in children aged 5 to 9 years of age.
In 2013 alone, concussions from playing on the playground grew to 30,000 children being treated in the ER. Researchers, therefore, recommend checking equipment, supervision, and soft playing surfaces.
