Artificial Grass for Playgrounds
Synthetic Turf for Playgrounds, Yards, Schools, and Public Places
NexGen Lawns manufactures synthetic playground turf engineered for safety, durability, and year-round performance. Designed to meet ASTM fall height standards, our turf provides a clean, soft surface for kids to play on with a life expectancy of 8 to 20 years.
Why Choose Synthetic Grass for Playgrounds
Whether it’s a school, daycare, public park, or backyard, our synthetic grass for playgrounds gives you a safer, lower-maintenance alternative to natural grass and mulch. It stays soft, clean, and consistent no matter the weather, which is what makes it the best artificial grass for playground swing sets and climbing equipment.
With 10% of children treated in emergency rooms for playground injuries, the surface your kids play on matters more than you might think.
Weather-Resistant Materials
Natural grass and mulch turn slippery and muddy after a heavy rainstorm. Our advanced drainage systems let artificial grass dry in as little as 15 minutes, so kids can get back outside fast without tracking mud everywhere or risking a slip. The drainage also prevents puddles and waterlogged spots that create unsafe conditions.
With 10% of children treated in the emergency room ages 14 and under being there because of playground injuries, it’s important to do everything you can to prevent your child from getting hurt on playground equipment.
Consistent Surface Texture
Natural grass can become very slick when wet, hard, or brittle when dry. This can cause a very uncomfortable playground environment for kids. The best part of synthetic turf for playgrounds is the fact that the texture will not change regardless of the weather.
Indoor fake grass or turf will maintain a comfortable, soft, and reliable surface for playground equipment, sports fields, or whatever else you want to do on it.
Different Than Your Typical Playground Astro Turf
If you’ve ever played on the typical artificial grass used on football and soccer fields, you know how annoying the rubber infill can be. Those little pieces stick to clothing, socks, and shoes and end up tracked all through the house. We use a special non-rubber infill that’s also 100% lead-free.
Our turf is built to handle prolonged sun exposure without fading or breaking down. It also reduces allergens since artificial grass for kids play area installations doesn’t release pollen, which is a real benefit for kids with seasonal allergies.
Low-Maintenance Artificial Grass for Playgrounds
At NexGen Lawns, the goal is to provide you with a playground solution and turf products that are easy to take care of. Whether it’s for a school, municipality, or even your own backyard – the low maintenance nature of synthetic turf is a huge plus.
Here are some of the features of our state-of-the-art turf installation:
- No More Mowing: Unlike natural grass that needs regular mowing, artificial turf maintains its perfect height year-round. This eliminates the need for lawnmowers, reducing both equipment costs and labor hours.
- No Fertilizers or Pesticides: Artificial turf doesn’t need chemical treatments to maintain its appearance or health. This eliminates the cost of these products and the labor to apply them, while also creating a safer, chemical-free play environment for children.
- Weed-Free: One of the most aggravating aspects of mulch is dealing with weeds that creep up in between the material. Weeds cannot grow through high-quality artificial grass that’s installed properly so you will never have to pull weeds again.
- No Bare Spots: High-traffic areas in natural grass playgrounds often turn into mud or bare patches. Artificial grass maintains its even surface, eliminating the need for regular reseeding or sodding.
With no mowing, watering, raking mulch back in place or rubber fly out, NexGen Lawns’ synthetic playground grass is the premier option for playgrounds and play areas.
Our artificial grass for playgrounds accommodates a variety of infills to meet different ASTM fall-height standards. We also offer a variety of foam pads to go underneath the synthetic grass.
Why is Synthetic Turf for Playgrounds Warmer Than Natural Grass?
Yes, of course, our synthetic grass doesn’t have the natural cooling capacity of natural grass. There’s always a trade-off for the benefits such as no mowing, no watering, no weeding, no chemical applications, easier dog clean up, no mud, etc. The only real trade-off is that the surface of synthetic grass will be warmer than natural grass.
But it’s not so hot that you or your pets can’t be on the surface on hot days with a few precautions. We recommend having at least one portion of your lawn space shaded for instant relief.
If the temperature gets hot, it’s always nice to have a little relief area until it cools down again. Also, you can spray synthetic grass with water right before you walk or play on a hot day. Additionally, you can always wear shoes. Many people find the extra heat doesn’t bother them if they keep moving. But, even if these precautions are not exercised, hot weather has not kept people or pets off of synthetic grass.
We have thousands of installations nationwide; including the Arizona desert. Complaints about surface temperature are extremely rare, but we understand people have different sensitivity levels. We just want our customers to be aware that there is a slight sacrifice to overcome the increased surface temperature, but it shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your lawn for years to come…even on hot days!

Artificial playground grass will last anywhere from 8 to 20 years, depending on how much use it gets.
Will the artificial grass fade in the sun?
Yes, but barely. It will only fade about 2 shades of pantone™ colors every 10 years. UV additives come mixed into our yarn resins so color fade will be minimal.
Is it difficult to repair or replace areas of the artificial grass?
No, it’s easy to patch, this is something you can do yourself. In case you do need to repair the playground grass, be sure to save any leftover scraps of grass after installation.
Can Synthetic Grass meet fall-height specifications?
Yes, NexGen Lawns in conjunction with padding can meet most fall-height standards.
Who Can Benefit from Artificial Grass for Playgrounds?
Homeowners, schools, playgrounds, parks, and municipalities can all benefit from an artificial grass play area. It’s not only designed to withstand high traffic but is also easy to maintain. Moreover, with its rapid flow drainage system, it can be kept dry year-round – in as little as a few minutes after a shower as well as a clean-up.
Since there is no mud, it won’t create puddles of water or mucky, slippery patches after a rain, in stark contrast to natural grass lawns. Therefore, it reduces the risk of falls and slips, offering safety, which is a primary requirement for any type of children’s space.
Is artificial grass safe for toddlers?
Yes. Our turf is non-toxic, lead-free, and designed to provide a soft, cushioned surface that protects young children during falls. When paired with our foam pads, it meets ASTM fall height standards for the highest level of safety.
How long does artificial playground grass take to install?
Installation timelines vary based on the size of the project and site conditions, but most residential and small commercial installations can be completed in a few days. Larger school or municipal projects may take longer depending on prep work.
Does artificial grass get hot enough to burn skin?
In extreme heat, the surface can get warmer than natural grass, but it's not hot enough to cause burns under normal conditions. Spraying it down with water before play and providing shaded areas keeps the surface comfortable on the hottest days.
Is artificial grass eco-friendly?
Yes. Our turf eliminates the need for water, fertilizers, pesticides, and gas-powered mowers. Our foam pads are made from 100% recycled polyethylene foam and are fully recyclable at the end of their lifespan.
How do you clean artificial playground grass?
Light maintenance is all it needs. Rinse off debris with a hose, brush the fibers occasionally to keep them upright, and spot-clean any spills. There's no mowing, fertilizing, or watering involved.
